Playdough Experiments

I seem to have gotten myself signed up as treasurer for our local baby and toddlers group. It's a bit strange how it's happened as I'm really not very good with numbers at all, and I kind of wasn't really expecting such a responsibility! The last treasurers kid has started nursery so isn't coming anymore... but without a treasurer the group would have to fold and noone wanted that to happen. Somewhere along the line in a conversation I think I must have said 'well. if it came to that I would do it'... and now here we are and I am in charge of monies. Cripes! What a nightmare!
Well. I thought it would be a good idea to look keen, so yesterday I looked up an old recipe I had for home made no cook play dough. I thought it would be nice to have some creative ideas to take to the group and I thought I'd start with this. When Verity got home from school she helped me make a batch and we had a really good time! I'd forgotten how easy and cheap this is to make and when you use herbal tea instead of food colouring it smells amazing! I will make up some recipe cards for next weeks session and see if people like it!

Recipe for No Cook Playdough
1 cup plain flour
Half cup salt
1 tablespoon cream of tartar powder
1 tablespoon veg oil
1 cup boiling water
food colouring or tea leaves from a colourful herbal teabag (cherry and cinnamon was good!)

1. Put all the dry ingredients with the oil in a mixing bowl.
2. Add the food colouring or tea leaves into the boiling water and then add to the other ingredients.
3. Mix well until mixture has turned into a dough.

We got a bit carried away and added some beautiful sparkly silver glitter to our mix and it looks really special!

Can we have some when we come? And can you please hang on to your fine weather. It's miserable here & just about everywhere except the north of Scotland.

wow thats great! I used to make some dough for my kids to play with but then we used to bake it in the oven... if I only knew what is "cream of tartar powder" I could try it at home! thanks for sharing the recipe...

Cream of tartar powder is a powder used in baking which you can use as a raising agent. You might find it near the baking powder or flour etc in a supermarket. If you can't find it - we think baking powder might be a good substitute (but we're not certain about this!!). Good luck!

In May 2007 we packed our bags and headed for the Highlands. We setup a blog and unfortunately the Gremlins did for it. So here is BLOG: The Revenge.
